Chief Financial Officer

George Govan joined the Commission as its first Chief Financial Officer, starting November 2, 2020. His areas of responsibility include budget formulation, financial management, internal controls, and enterprise risk management.

Govan brought nearly three decades of experience to his Commission position. He previously served as the Chief, Financial Transformation Support Division, Financial Accounting Service, Financial Services Center, for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to that role, he served as the Director, Budget and Performance Division, for the Transportation Security Administration. Before that, he was the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Officer for the Railroad Retirement Board. He served as a Financial Management Officer in progressively responsible positions during a career in the Air Force, and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2000. He holds an E.D. in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University, an M.B.A. in Management from Troy State University, and a B.B.A. in Accounting from Mary Hardin-Baylor University.
