Custodial Services

For more than a quarter century, the AbilityOne Program has been providing the government with outstanding custodial services. Our workers have helped more than 40 government agencies keep their facilities clean and maintained in nearly 1,000 locations. AbilityOne employees clean 65 million square feet of government offices every day.  Millions of square feet at military installations are serviced each day as well. We are thoroughly knowledgeable about sound environmental practices and have done so well for the government that it looks to us to care for its most precious assets.

Turnover of AbilityOne custodial service employees is markedly less than commercial market averages. Services are provided to federal facilities by neighboring nonprofit agencies, and the average length of AbilityOne contracts is more than 10 years without re-procurement costs.
Our services include:

  • Office cleaning from basic service to executive level
  • Complete restroom sanitation and stocking
  • Special services such as judges chambers and courtrooms, dining facilities, kitchens and meat rooms, day care centers, fitness centers, computer rooms, including secure areas
  • Route cleaning for base-wide projects

Fleet Maintenance Services

Through NISH AbilityOne's approach to providing fleet management services involves partnering with fleet managers so as to leverage core competencies and focus on core missions of our customers’ organizations. Our goal is to enhance the fleet management capabilities of in-house staff, not replace them. For some organizations, this means working under a turnkey fleet management contract in which we perform substantially all cradle-to-grave asset management functions. For others, it means providing support services in a limited area such as vehicle washing or vehicle utilization tracking and reporting.

Through our national network of more than 600 nonprofit agency (NPA) partners, we work with each customer to select the combination of services that best meets the customer’s needs. Many of our NPA partners have current security clearances and several are already working onsite at federal facilities and military installations. Because of their clearances and federal government fleet experience, these partners can step in on short notice and require less time and training to become fully productive. Moreover, because we are a nonprofit organization, we are not driven by revenue targets or profit maximization goals. Therefore, customers can be assured that projects are scoped to their specification and priced competitively.

During the last decade, major food service awards (Ney, Hennessy, Local Command) and half of the U.S. Navy’s “5” Star accreditation awards for food services have gone to AbilityOne Program facilities. That’s because we are leaders in the commercial food service industry and combine our experience with a thorough knowledge of DoD practices. Government food services needs have been met by the AbilityOne Program for the past two decades. Secure Document Destruction

Identity theft, security breaches and stolen computers are among some of the fastest growing crimes in the United States today. Four percent of all Americans were victims in 2004. Identity theft has increased by 600% since 2000. Not surprisingly, some of the most targeted institutions, and the most vulnerable, are federal agencies. What may be a surprise in our increasingly technology driven society is thieves continue to prefer accessing paper-based documents. Prevention remains the best means of intervention and the AbilityOne Program provides solutions. Our secure document destruction services include:

  • Secure, locked bins
  • Regularly scheduled pick-up days
  • GPS tracked trucks
  • Bar coded security bins scanned In and Out
  • All bins weighed
  • Shred widths of 5/16” versus the industry standard of 5/8”
  • Co-mingling of paper sources to increase security
  • Certificates of Destruction
  • Full background checks of all employees
  • On-going training for all employees
  • Facilities with multiple security cameras with stored images for three months
  • Customer “log in” capacity to watch document destruction of their materials in real-time
  • All participating nonprofits agencies are AAA-certified and members of the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID)

Every day across the country, the AbilityOne Program is shredding sensitive documents for security-conscious federal customers.
